Women living with HIV represent a highly heterogeneous population whose clinical needs extend far virological control. Despite major advances in antiretroviral therapy, women remain underrepresented in clinical research and face persistent disparities in diagnosis, access to care, treatment optimisation and long-term outcomes. Biological, hormonal, reproductive and psychosocial factors, together with social determinants of health, influence every stage of the HIV care continuum and require personalised and multidisciplinary responses.

The Italian Conference on Women's Clinical Advances and Research on HIV (W-CARE) is designed to address these unmet needs by bringing together national and international experts to review the latest evidence and discuss its translation into clinical practice.

The scientific program will explore evolving antiretroviral treatment, including long-acting strategies and approaches to multidrug-resistant HIV, while highlighting sex-specific considerations that should inform therapeutic choices.

Sessions will prioritise healthy ageing and multimorbidity (cardiovascular disease, bone health, menopause, cancer), reproductive and sexual health across the life course (pregnancy, delivery, breastfeeding, PrEP), and inclusive care for transgender women. Dedicated panels will tackle structural barriers a_ecting migrant and other vulnerable women, o_ering practical strategies to reduce stigma and improve equitable access to prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Beyond knowledge transfer, W-CARE aims to foster multidisciplinary dialogue and collaborative research. Interactive discussions of complex clinical scenarios will provide a platform to identify current evidence gaps, define future priorities for women-centred HIV research and foster multidisciplinary collaboration aimed at improving standards of care and quality of life for women living with HIV.
